The simple question first: calcium exists in all body fluids and almost all tissues as calcium (Ca++ ion) and there are many monovalent (mostly chloride) and divalent ions (mostly HPO4 --) that keep it in solution. Additionally, much of the calcium is bound to specific (and some not so specific) proteins.
