A. Those traits are good to have no matter what they do for a living. Psychologists need good communication skills but I can't think of a reason that creativity and flexibility would be absolutely necessary. He/she just wouldn't be very good at their job.Creativity and flexibility equal critical thinking skills,

A. Yes, those attributes are essential, especially good communication. Since psychologists are working directly with the thought processes in the brain, they need to successfully interpret what the client says and also conclude what the client means. And, the psychologist must have the necessary expertise to communicate his conclusions to the client in a manner which is understandable and logical.

A. Yes, I believe that there are certain innate upper bounds to one's creativity potential. However, as one gains experience on the job and, indeed, in everyday life, inspiration and creativity sometimes spontaneously erupts. You may just need to mature a little more to allow those abilities to manifest themselves. Don't worry. That potential is there. Just try to allow it to happen rather than attempting to force it.

What do you think of the romanticized image of bipolar disorder and its link to creativity?
Q. Why does this image pervade despite lack of any genuine methodological studies (aside from the fact that creativity and intelligence can't really be measured)? I think it is a very dangerous thing that the media perpetuates, especially given that bipolar people are extremely impressionable and often delusional.

A. There is certainly a link between creativity and bipolar disease. There are several books on this but the best is probably by Kay Jamison. As far as romanticized, I don't know that is true. If there are people that think it is a great trade off then they might want to rethink that. Bipolar disease is not a fun and even though it gives me certain gifts, I think I would rather just be like everyone else. I don't know why people romanticize the idea. Maybe it is because they are trying to lessen the blow of being bipolar or they are trying to make people less afraid of bipolars. I don't know. What are some (realistic) career possibilities that use creativity?
Q. Well, I think I would really enjoy a job that utilizes my creativity, like being an artist or photographer or actor or something. However, I know those are things that either a) I can probably not realistically make a living on and b) are far fetched (you know, as in it's rare for someone to make it in those fields). So my question is are there other careers that would utilize my creativity and yet are more realistic goals? (and not based on the chance of being discovered you know?) Thanks! :)
Asked by Britches - Tue Aug 25 10:24:58 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Photography isn't that unrealistic - especially if you supplement the fun stuff (like weddings or commercial shoots) with more mundane work, like senior pictures or school portraits. Beyond that, you could always teach art in schools or work as an art therapist. Advertising is another field that springs to mind - it's certainly a lucrative field and it would enable you to use your creativity on tons of fun client projects.

Is creativity innate, or is it fostered by an environment that encourages and rewards creative thinking?
Q. Creative and innovative figures from the past often encountered tidal waves of destructive criticism or even punishment. Still, they persisted with their ideas. Yet others were encouraged and rewarded financially or in some other tangible way for their innovations. But what best fosters creativity? Innate ability or approval from others?

A. Innate ability. If we waited around for the approval of others, no good, creative ideas would ever surface or be recognized.

A. Scientific discoveries are usually based on what is already known. The scientist thinks about them in a new way, and maybe discovers a new principle. Or the scientist does some experiments and finds something that wasn't expected, and thinks of a way to explain it, tests again, and if the theory is correct, it's a discovery. Just as an example, I read a news story today about a boy who discovered a way to improve solar energy cells. He knew how they work. He knew that they capture visible light and convert it to stored enrgy. He knew about the electromagnetic radiation spectrum. His creativity was that he put all this together and realized that solar cells could use the ultraviolet part of the e-m spectrum for energy, too, even though… [cont.]

Q. I'm not really interested in an English degree because I hate writing essays, but I like to use my creativity and have always wanted to be a children's author but didn't think it was practical. I'm also interested in theatre, but I don't really think acting is the answer for me. Asked by Matt O - Tue Feb 10 23:54:40 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It can help some people... but then again, whatever kind of music you like can help stimulate brain activity. Different types of music can activate different areas of the brain... it depends on how you react to it... try experimenting. If you're interested, different smells (like lavender) and colours / lighting can also help you to open your mind.

How can I help my friend get her creativity back?
Q. So my best friend for 4 years now is in a huge rut. She used to paint and do all kinds of artsy stuff. She got pregnant and lost the baby about a year ago. Ever since then shes just been doing nothing with her amazing talent. Shes been feeling really nostalgic lately and her fiance is doing absolutely nothing about how she feels and doesn't even seem to care. I'm really looking for something to do for her or to give her to just ignite that creativity that I know she still has inside of her.

I felt like that once and I lost my creativity!.. but, I was kinda thirsty so I kept watching arts and great artist who would give u a big inspiration. By time I get back to what I used to be. PS: artists need to take a break once in a while so if checking art didn't work out for her, just let go.. she'll be back when she feel like. Good Luck

A. oh i know what u're talking about. Just let her check the good art. And let her join such a community of the art she's doing if there is any online. I felt like that once and I lost my creativity!.. but, I was kinda thirsty so I kept watching arts and great artist who would give u a big inspiration. By time I get back to what I used to be. How is chess a form of art or creativity?
Q. For a diploma I'm trying to get, I need to show that chess is a form of art that requires/displays creativity. Please phrase as if you were answering this to an authority figure ("Chess is art because..."). Please include as much passion and reasoning as you can. Thank you.

A. Chess is a type of art because like music and painting, you are free to do what you like. The way you decide your moves and what your strategy is represents your mood, which is very similar to most types of art.
