Are the traits of creativity, flexibility and communication important in a good psychologist?

A. Those traits are good to have no matter what they do for a living. Psychologists need good communication skills but I can't think of a reason that creativity and flexibility would be absolutely necessary. A. Yes to all 3! I am not a psychologist but i wanted to be one at one time in my life. In my opinion you deal with a wide variety of personality types so you have to be creative in your ways to relate to people whom you don't normally have anything in common with, cuz lets be honest as much as one may like to think they can relate to all there is always gonna be someone that you just can't get through to using the normal methods because they are guarded too much and disinterested in sharing problems with a stranger. Second, flexibility, depends on what you mean... you may have to be flexible in the times and places in which you have sessions with your clients. Thirdly, obviously communication is key, if you can't listen and respond… [cont.]

How do you increase the creativity of the imagination?
Q. I feel that my art suffers drastically because of a seeming lack in 'imagination'. While the technical skill is there, I think that it generally lacks creativity, uniqueness... How can I rectify this? Oh, wow. Your notion of 'censorship' really made sense. Thank you.

A. Hmm... Creativity is not something that you can really "train" - it's like trying to teach yourself to be taller, or make your eyes lighter. You might have the creativity, but you're not letting it come out for reason. Maybe you censor your ideas before they come out? Do you sometimes have ideas and think immediately after "that's stupid" or "that's pointless to draw that" ? If you have those thoughts, stop censoring them! Let yourself draw something even if it's silly or stupid. Your drawings are your own, so don't hold back. Try observing more of the world. What do you see as exciting and different? What makes you unique? How can you put that uniqueness into your art? Try putting movement, conflict into your drawings. If you're there,… [cont.]

Is Madonna sacrificing creativity for the sake of reaching a younger audience?
Q. After watching the Sticky and Sweet Tour (not her best at all and compare terribly to the Confessions Tour) and her latest campaign with Dolce & Gabbana I've noticed Madonna wants to reach out to the younger generations. Is she sacrificing her creativity in doing this?

A. In my opinion, yes. I have always loved Madonna and she really was a great publicist for herself, but now its time to move over. What made her famous will keep her there, but only if she sticks to her fans favorite tunes, and trust me some of us are wondering where they went.

A. While the degree to which it is important probably varies depending on the type of psychologist, I would say yes. The ability to "think outside the box", is important. Of the three, I'd say communication is the most important. A psychologist will have to not only communicate with her client, but with other service providers, community liasons, schools...etc.

How to improve creativity and innovation in 3-4yr old kids?
Q. I'm looking for games (online or otherwise) or some stories, plays, etc that would improve children's creativity and inculcate innovation in them. I feel that early years are the only time to train the brain for creativity. thanks!

A. Here are some activities that encourage creative play with kids. - draw, color, paint, scribble - dance to some music - playing pretend with dolls, cars, other toys - having props to pretend to be different careers like a doctor, mail carrier, fire fighter, police officer, etc - building with blocks, big size legos, tinker toys, etc - modeling with clay, play-doh - give them basic musical instruments and let them bang around and make noise (like pots and pans, jingle bell shakers, toy drum, toy flute, toy trumpet, etc) - give them lots of different kinds of experience to build their background knowledge (go to museums, zoos, parks, etc) - read to them (build vocabulary, comprehension, fluency over time)

Why is it important to encourage creativity from the earliest age?
Q. 5 ways to encourage creativity?

A. My daughter is 1 1/2 and she is amazing with creativity already. She colors and dances.. Its amazing, but if you choose not to start at such a young age, they may not grasp it as easily. When they are young everything tends to stick in their heads right away. So it sticks with them as they get older.. I say start young, and keep refreshing their memory, by repeating what you have done. So when they get older they wont have to re learn it. It will just come natural to them

A. well its not easy. what i do, is first come up with an idea of what u want ur song to be based on. For instance, if i was going to write a song on love, id go in a quiet room. Then close my eyes and imagine the person and everything that makes u love them.Let the memories flow through, and remember the best moments with that person. Same applies for other subjects. Also, I usually carry some kind of pen and notebook wtih me. If any ideas hit me, I writee them down right awazy. I can always add to it later. I also sometimes write my rough copy in a poem form first, its easier to get the ideas down. i hoped i helped.

Hi Jennifer, In my opinion, there are seeds planted in our souls...some are watered and produce gifts of creativity and talents for other things like being the best speller or math pro, great runner etc... Some people pick up a paint brush and go to it, without professional training. They seem to know what to do and when to do it. Others need instructions after instructions after instructions...and there are those in between. Back in the 80's due to a death in our family I decided to go to the local junior college and take a art course. I thought it would help me focus on something positive..I didn't have a talent or gift but as I was taught all kinds of things poured out of me...like a cleansing from the loss. It was the same thing… [cont.]

Is creativity innate, or is it fostered by an environment that encourages and rewards creative thinking?
Q. Creative and innovative figures from the past often encountered tidal waves of destructive criticism or even punishment. Still, they persisted with their ideas. Yet others were encouraged and rewarded financially or in some other tangible way for their innovations. But what best fosters creativity? Innate ability or approval from others?

Q. Creative and innovative figures from the past often encountered tidal waves of destructive criticism or even punishment. Still, they persisted with their ideas. Yet others were encouraged and rewarded financially or in some other tangible way for their innovations. But what best fosters creativity? Innate ability or approval from others?

A. Innate ability. If we waited around for the approval of others, no good, creative ideas would ever surface or be recognized.

Is Obama encouraging more testing or more creativity in the classroom?
Q. I understand that the No Child Left Behind Act discourages creativity in the classroom and encourages a test-based system of learning, justified by Bush's plans to better monitor schools. Is this right? Yet I am confused with what Obama is doing with education nowadays. Is he keeping the NCLB or not? Could someone please explain these politics to me in simpler terms, particularly how it pertains to classroom learning?
