Probably just because they wanted to bring Agumon back, but use a different digivolution series. There's no real rhyme or reason. Didn't they name him Taichi, too? Like Tai form the first season, and another was named Taikaishi (I think - but that's TK's name) No offense, I love digimon but they're not exactly creative. They can be, but even the names aren't that creative.
