Creative nonfiction (also known as literary or narrative nonfiction) is a genre of writing that uses literary styles and techniques to create factually accurate narratives. Creative nonfiction contrasts with other nonfiction, such as technical writing or journalism, which is also rooted in accurate fact, but is not primarily written in service to its craft. As a genre, creative nonfiction is still relatively young, and is only beginning to be scrutinized with the same critical analysis given to fiction and poetry.

Why is writing over the curriculum honored more than just "pure" writing?
Q. I wish that writing could be regarded by itself with minor topics. For example, college classes based on fiction writing, biographical writing, nonfiction writing, creative writing, letter writing, writing poetry and more... But writing seems to be more used for subjects, criticism, and literature. What ever happened to the love of "pure" writing? Why aren't there academic careers/majors based on "pure" writing and the communication of the Major? English is a major, but it's not the same as writing...

A. Move to the city put a sign on your door that says "Poet", then invite people in to pay you so you can teach them the rules to pure writing. Probably because "pure" writing is not something that can be taught in schools, being that it has no specific subject matter to teach.

How Do I Get Started When Writing A Nonfiction Book?
Q. I'm writing a nonfiction book, well actually it's kind of an autobiography of my life over the past few years. I have never wrote a book before and I'm wanting to know how do I get started. Now some of you are probably wondering why would I want to write a book about my life, and your probably thinking what makes you so special and stuff like that. Well my inspiration for writing a book about my life was when I read a book called "Finding Ben" by Barbara Lasalle which is about the author's point of view on her mentally disabled boy Ben. Now Ben has something called Asperger's Syndrome which is a form of autism and it made a big impact on both his and his mother's (the author's) life. Now I also have Asperger's Syndrome and both me and my… [cont.]

A. First thing first...realize that you have the right to write any book, and that it doesn't matter what others think! You sound very self consious about your writing from your post, and you don't need to prove that your book has merits. Now for actually writing, just start writing! You said it will got over last few years, start where you want. Maybe start out with you, the main character, going over how you felt when you found out, or maybe your mothers reaction if you were too young, and a summary of many some main things that have impacted you up to that point. Then start where you want, what main experience is significant that you want to start at? And just begin writing. Maybe even checking out some biographies or autobiographies from… [cont.]
