From Google News Search: "expressive therapies" what is expressive therapy? Q. what is expressive therapy? how can art therapy be used to treat/ heal someone? what other forms of expressive therapies are available? Asked by fire kid - Tue Nov 13 07:42:28 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Expressive therapy utilizes art, music, movement , drama, writing, etc. to help someone through a healing process. These types of therapies (including art) allow someone to express their emotions in a non-traditional manner (talking). Expressive therapies provide an environment that can be seen as less threating to the clients - allowing someone to "open up" in an environment that may feel safer to them. These therapies can be used with children and adults in an individual or group setting. Art therapy does not require any "artistic ability" on the client's part. It is the process that counts. I think expressive therapies are wonderful and are very powerful therapies when done correctly. Q. I want to be an occupational therapist. I want to get my OTD from a good grad school. But I wnat to incorporate creative arts. I think I want to minor in biology, but I want to major in either "creative/expressive arts therapy," which seems to be a major only at a couple of colleges, or create a major. I know Goucher college and Hampshire and Marlboro allow students to create a major, but are there any others? I want to focus on ALL the arts, not just one.
