From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, beauty, law, justice, validity, mind, and language. Philosophy is distinguished from other ways of addressing these questions (such as mysticism or mythology) by its critical, generally systematic approach and its reliance on reasoned argument. The word is of Greek origin: φιλοσοφία, philos and sophos, "love of wisdom". From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "philosophy" What is the link between Starbucks and philosophy? Q. I often hear people joking around that people who like philosophy go to Starbucks, or people who study philosophy will end up working there. (or some other "funny" joke that links Starbucks or even coffee in general, to philosophy) Thinking about that, I'm now wondering where that even came from. What is the connection between coffee or Starbucks, and philosophy. Or maybe not just philosophy but perhaps there are other disciplines that are linked to Starbucks? has anyone heard of any? Art History maybe? idk Can someone give a serious explanation as to what the origins of these jokes are. Just curious. Asked by Brian - Thu Jul 2 04:10:36 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Answered by o - Fri Jul 3 09:00:54 2009 Please explain the difference between these 3 Philosophy classes? Q. I need to take a Philosophy class but I dont know which one to take. My options are Intro to Philosophy, Intro to Logic, and Ethics. Please explain the difference on what is covered between the 3. Which one is more interesting? I am not big on reading, but I will read if the material is interesting. Please help because I need to take this class this semester. Thanks for all the help you guys can give. I wouldn't recommend taking either of the others before taking the intro class because you need the general information in the intro class to better understand the others. After that, if you choose to take another philosophy class, I'd choose ethics over logic. Logic is almost like an advanced math class with words instead of numbers. And check professors through ratemyprofessor.com if at all possible. You definitely want a good professor for philosophy. Answered by sassinmama - Wed May 28 23:45:46 2008 What is the difference between philosophy and theme?
Q. Can a theme of a story be a philosophy? I have to come up with philosophies for these novels that I'm reading but so far, what I came up with seems more like themes. Also, I'm not sure what a philosophy is. If you can explain it to me then that would be awesome! Asked by Squeak Squeak~ - Sat Dec 6 21:50:16 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. First off, the best thing you could do is ask your teacher to clarify what he's looking for. This may simply be a matter of terminology. Your second question: "Can a theme of a story be a philosophy?" Yes, but you would need to name the philosophy so we could comprehend the theme. The terms Theme and Philosophy are not interchangeable. Now onto your main question. It sounds like the teacher wants to know the deeper meaning intended by the author. This may or may not be the same meaning that the story appears to be about. If it is, it's likely to be shown through the main character by his actions, words, and experiences. Either way, your goal is finding the purpose the author had for writing the story. What that means is, you will need… [cont.] Answered by Searcher - Mon Dec 8 04:00:59 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "philosophy" Quotes regarding Philosophy and philosophers: Sourced
